KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had an audience with Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at Istana Hinggap Perak here today (July 13).
According to a Sarawakku Facebook post, Abang Johari, who is also President of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM), presented an invitation to Sultan Nazrin for His Royal Highness to officiate the International Waqf Da’wah Convention 2026.

The convention’s opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on July 27, 2026.
During the audience, Abang Johari also shared details on the convention, including its objectives and PERKIM’s efforts to strengthen the waqf institution as a catalyst for da’wah, education, welfare and the development of converts.
The International Waqf Da’wah Convention 2026 is expected to bring together waqf practitioners, Islamic scholars, academics and leaders from Malaysia and several countries, including Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka, Libya and Thailand, to share experiences and explore sustainable waqf models.
The convention will also focus on discussions on sustainable waqf financing models to support continuous da’wah initiatives, as well as opportunities for international cooperation in strengthening waqf institutions.
“PERKIM hopes the outcomes of the convention can be translated into policies and strategic collaborations involving waqf institutions, governments, State Islamic Religious Councils, Islamic financial institutions and da’wah organisations,” the posting said.
Also present during the audience was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
