SIBU: A team from the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch recently conducted a ground inspection to review the progress of the newly commenced concrete culvert crossover upgrading works behind Sang Ik Methodist Trinity Church in Tanjung Kunyit of West Bank here.
The team was led by the branch chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, who said the project was one of the initiatives implemented under the Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation for Bawang Assan, aimed at upgrading the local crossing facilities and improving road conditions for the safety and convenience of residents.
He commended the progress of the work by the Public Works Department (PWD), the implementing agency, which has begun work on the final stretch involving the third of three crossovers in the area.
The other two crossings were successfully completed last year.
According to Lau, who is also SUPP Youth Central chairman, the three crossings were previously old timber bridges that had deteriorated significantly over time, raising safety concerns for residents and students who rely on the route daily.
“With the installation of concrete culverts and the upgrading of the surrounding road, it is hoped that once the project is fully completed, it will provide a safer and more reliable passage for small vehicles while enhancing overall road safety and accessibility for the community,” he said.
He added that the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch team will continue to monitor the progress of the project and maintain communication with the relevant authorities to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the RTP project for the benefit of the people.
Also present during the site inspection were Penghulu Wong Ung, Penghulu Yong King Sung, Kapitan Ting Siew Kiew, and Cr Justin Wong Sing Ing.
