MIRI: Outstanding individuals, educational institutions and community organisations were recognised for their contributions to Islamic development, education, research, public service and community welfare during the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah 1448H celebration at the Miri Indoor Stadium today.
The awards were presented by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in the presence of his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
A total of more than RM90,000 in cash prizes, educational assistance and development incentives was awarded across 14 categories, reflecting the state’s commitment to recognising excellence and service to the community.
Leading the list of recipients was Associate Professor Ir Ts Dr Siti Kudnie Sahari, who received the ‘Anugerah Penyelidikan dan Pembangunan’ award, carrying a cash prize of RM10,000 and a certificate signed by the Head of State.
Norhaza Ahmad Redzuan Abdullah received the ‘Anugerah Pendakwah’ award, which came with RM5,000 in cash, while Masjid Al-Ghazali, Kuching, was honoured with the ‘Anugerah Pengurusan dan Pentadbiran Masjid Terbaik’ award.
The mosque received RM5,000 in cash, a certificate and a development project worth RM30,000.
In the public service category, Mohd Syukri Abdullah was named recipient of the ‘Anugerah Pegawai Awam Islam’ award, while Datu Kueh Lei Poh received the ‘Anugerah Pegawai Awam Bukan Islam’ award.
Both awards carried RM5,000 in cash and certificates signed by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri.
The ‘Anugerah Keluarga Cemerlang’ award was presented to the family of Laman Yasim, while Nurul Cleo Sharmeen Roslam received the ‘Anugerah Belia’ award.
Helmi Abdullah and Zainab Sato Abdullah were recognised in the male and female categories respectively under the ‘Anugerah Saudara Kita’. Each recipient received RM5,000 in cash together with a certificate.
Educational institutions also featured prominently among the recipients.
SMKA Tun Ahmad Zaidi (TUNAZ) received the ‘Anugerah Sekolah Menengah Agama Cemerlang’ award, while SKA MIS Sri Aman was presented with the ‘Anugerah Sekolah Rendah Agama Cemerlang’ award.
Both schools received RM5,000 in cash, certificates and educational materials worth RM3,000.
Among the student award recipients, Nurul Shazwani Mohamad Rashdan received the ‘Anugerah Pelajar STAM Cemerlang’ award, which included RM4,000 in cash and a RM4,000 Tabung Ibnu Khaldun education grant to support further studies at a higher learning institution.
Josh Hamid Doharome Suparno, recipient of the ‘Anugerah Pelajar STPM Cemerlang’ award, received RM3,000 in cash and a RM4,000 Tabung Ibnu Khaldun grant, while Hanies Nadhrah Nehal, recipient of the ‘Anugerah Pelajar SPM Cemerlang’ award, received RM2,000 in cash and a RM4,000 education grant under the same scheme.
Held under the theme ‘Ummah Maju Makmur’, the annual Maal Hijrah celebration marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year and serves as a platform to acknowledge individuals and institutions whose achievements contribute to the development of the Muslim community and the overall progress of Sarawak.
The celebration drew the participation of government leaders, community representatives, religious scholars and members of the public from across the state, reaffirming the values of unity, excellence and service embodied by the spirit of Hijrah.
