BAU: A dawn-to-noon anti-drug sweep across several villages here netted 11 individuals, including a woman, as police tightened the net on suspected drug abuse activities under a special operation on Tuesday (Mar 31).
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the arrests were made during Op Tapis Khas conducted from 5.30am to 11am on Mar 31, involving personnel from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) and the Bau police headquarters.
“The operation covered multiple locations, namely Kampung Pangkalan Bau, Kampung Tasik Biru, Kampung Segong, Kampung Jugan, Kampung Stenggang and Kampung Sepadah.
“Those detained comprised 10 men and one woman aged between 20 and 60, all suspected of involvement in drug abuse,” he said in a statement.
He added that three of the male suspects were arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after they were found in possession of packets containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu.
“Initial urine screening tests conducted on all 11 suspects returned positive results for drugs. They are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act,” he added.
Mohd Haide said firm action will be taken against those involved in drug-related offences.
He also urged members of the public to channel information on drug activities to the Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-208 7222 or Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-592 9211.
