KUCHING: Eight Bumiputera companies in Sarawak have been identified as investment-ready and demonstrating strong potential for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) on Bursa Malaysia.
Of these, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said three companies have successfully completed the Elevate Programme, a targeted readiness initiative by TERAJU, while one company is on track to achieve listing this year.
“We have identified eight companies with the potential to be listed on Bursa Malaysia, and God willing, at least one will achieve this before the end of the year,” he told reporters after officiating the TERAJU Aspirasi Outreach Sarawak 2026 programme at TEGAS Digital Village today, representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Earlier in his speech, he said these efforts directly support the 3-7-20 Sarawak Strategic Framework; deliver three Bumiputera IPOs, nurturing seven industry champions and upgrading 20 per cent of micro-enterprises.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, said efforts to strengthen small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly Bumiputera-owned companies, will continue to be intensified as SMEs remain the backbone of the national economy, contributing significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
However, he noted that some SMEs remain unregistered, prompting the ministry to introduce initiatives aimed at formalising these businesses.
“Among them is the ‘Jom Regista Bisnes’ programme in Sarawak, which seeks to build a comprehensive database to better tailor assistance.
“What is important is to ensure businesses grow from micro to higher levels. With proper data and planning, we can enhance their development through collaboration with various parties,” he said.
He also called on entrepreneurs to be bold in innovation, agile in adaptation and disciplined in strengthening their business fundamentals.
“Capability development is essential. Entrepreneurs must continuously upgrade their skills, strengthen professionalism, and adopt good governance and strategic planning to build sustainable businesses,” he added.
