KUCHING: Sarawak should follow Sabah’s example in wiping out the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in the next state election, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Dr Sim said this was based on the outcome of the 2025 Sabah State Election, which saw the DAP losing all seats contested.
“Everyone is now looking at Sarawak and talking about it. In Sabah 2025, what did Sabah do? They followed Sarawak.
“So for Sarawak 2026, what do we need to do? Follow Sabah and give DAP ‘telur'(zero seats),” he said when delivering his speech at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026 held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today (April 19).
Dr Sim, who is also president of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), said Sarawak will continue its efforts to assert its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
He said the state aims to position itself as a leading force in Malaysia’s long-term development, looking beyond 2030 towards 2050, with a strong emphasis on youth participation.
“We need young people to drive this vision forward, guided by two key priorities set by the Premier, one of which is education,” he said.
Dr Sim also stressed the importance of regaining greater autonomy, particularly in the healthcare sector.
“We want to reclaim autonomy because the central government cannot fully cater to our needs. Healthcare is costly, and as populations age, more resources are required.
“That is why we are seeking the return of healthcare powers to Sarawak, so that we can better take care of our people,” he said.
