KUCHING: Sarawak-born designer, Dickson Lim, has become the first Malaysian menswear designer to be represented at the Met Gala after one of his designs was worn at the 2026 edition of the prestigious event in New York.
The piece was worn by Ty Hunter, the longtime stylist to global pop icon, Beyoncé, during his appearance at the high-profile event.
Lim shared the moment on Instagram, expressing disbelief after seeing his design featured on the front cover of The Wall Street Journal alongside the singer.
“I genuinely thought this was fake for a second. My designs on the front cover of the Wall Street Journal… alongside Beyoncé,” he wrote.
He also thanked Hunter for the opportunity, describing it as something he had never imagined possible.
“Thank you, Ty, for helping realise a dream I never thought was possible,” he added.

The Sarawakian designer, known for his contemporary menswear and strong tailoring approach, has been building his name in the fashion scene despite having no formal training.
He first drew wider attention after debuting at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2020 as one of the youngest designers and the only Sarawakian featured at the time.
His work has since continued to gain recognition, including a feature in Sarawak Tribune, where he described himself as a self-taught designer carrying his roots from Sarawak in every step of his journey.
The latest exposure has sparked reactions online, with many expressing pride over the designer’s growing presence on the international stage.
