Low-carbon development has the potential to position Sarawak as a strategic destination for investment, technological collaboration and clean energy industry development in the future.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Sarawak is increasingly being recognised as one of the region’s leaders in clean energy and the green economy.
Wan Junaidi said efforts to expand the use of renewable energy such as hydropower, solar, bioenergy and low-carbon fuel technology are important steps in ensuring sustainable and competitive energy security.
“This approach not only helps preserve the environment, but also creates new economic opportunities and attracts more quality investments to Sarawak.
“As we know, developed countries including those from the European Union (EU), Japan and South Korea place strong emphasis on the use of renewable green energy and low-carbon development,” he said in his opening address at the first meeting of the fifth term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
He stressed that Sarawak must continue to strengthen and enhance the momentum of its existing strengths and recognition.
“This is important for Sarawak to emerge as a renewable clean energy hub capable of attracting greater interest and investment from regional and international investors,” he said.
