SERIAN: A landslide forced a family to temporarily evacuate their home after the surrounding area was deemed unsafe.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an alert at 8.28pm on Thursday (May 14) on a landslide at Kampung Tesu Kura, Tebedu.

A team from the Serian fire station was dispatched to the location, about 47km away, arriving at 9.18pm.

“According to the homeowner, the landslide is believed to have occurred at around 7pm. It damaged a non-permanent storage structure located approximately one metre from the house.

“Further assessment by the team found cracks in the drainage area and on the house, posing a potential danger to the occupants,” Bomba said.

Bomba added that the landslide could occur again at any time due to the continuous rainy weather, and advised the occupants to temporarily evacuate as a safety precaution.

The occupants comprise two adult men, one adult woman and two children.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has been informed of the incident.
