DARO: The spirit of communal cooperation, collaboration and unity among the people must continue to be preserved and strengthened to ensure harmony and progress within the community.

Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi said these values are an important foundation in shaping a united society where people help one another.

He said this at the Aidiladha sacrificial ritual programme organised by Surau Darul Makmur Kampung Itol at Surau Darul Makmur on Thursday (May 28).

He also praised the commitment shown by Kampung Itol residents, who consistently work together in carrying out various community and religious activities for the common good.

During the event, he also responded positively to a request raised by the chairman of Surau Darul Makmur regarding the need for repair works on the surau’s ageing roof.

According to him, the matter would be looked into to ensure the surau facilities can continue to be used comfortably and safely.

The programme saw two cows sacrificed through contributions from participants as well as assistance from Lembaga Kebajikan Melayu Daro.

The programme began as early as 6.30am with the slaughtering of the sacrificial cows carried out in a gotong-royong (mutual cooperation) spirit involving villagers before continuing with the process of skinning, packing and distributing the meat to eligible recipients.

The event, attended by about 200 residents, ended in an atmosphere of goodwill and gratitude, reflecting the appreciation of sacrifice and togetherness that form the core of the Aidiladha celebration.
