History made!

Grab Malaysia in collaboration with Coca-Cola jointly gained an inspiring recognition of the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the “MOST E-HAILING CARS IN A GAWAI FESTIVAL CONVOY”.

A massive fleet of 100 GrabCars wrapped in Coca-Cola livery and graced with mini Sarawak flags became the talk of the town, undertaking a 55-km journey from Kuching to Kampung Annah Rais with a striking spectacle that celebrated both Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage and the unity of its people.

The road to a new record

The convoy with Grab driver-partners was flagged off by Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South, Head of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), and Casey Chung, Head of Deliveries & Ads Revenue Management of Grab Malaysia – at MBKS Kuching, heading south to Kampung Annah Rais, nearby the Sarawak-Kalimantan border.

The fun started even before the trip. That is because, in the largest state of Malaysia, nearly equal to the Peninsula, travelling from one place to another could sometimes mean exploring two different worlds. Sarawak’s capital, Kuching, is a vibrant city with modern infrastructure and historical landmarks. Interestingly, barely an hour away into the interior of this massive land, a different set of “wow factors” opens up.

Real journey, real connections

Putting these backdrops in perspective, the Grab Malaysia and Coca-Cola convoy was more than a record-setting feat. It was more about celebrating Gawai on-ground with real-life interactions, bringing the festival to life beyond physical barriers. The journey fostered camaraderie, friendship and teamwork among participants, cultivating a strong sense of belonging and social cohesion in a community-driven setting. As the entourage transitioned from urban streets into the green corridors of the Padawan Mountains, participants had the opportunity to explore cultural immersion alongside breathtaking landscapes. Call it a personal touch of how Grab Malaysia and Coca-Cola came together to show their support, honour local traditions and celebrate Gawai side-by-side with the Dayak community, right where it matters most.

A rolling tribute to Gawai heritage in the heart of Bidayuh village

This is where Kampung Annah Rais really comes alive. The traditional Bidayuh village in Sarawak is home to a massive, well-preserved longhouse that has stood for over 175 years, and still houses over 80 families. Made primarily of bamboo and timber, it offers visitors an authentic glimpse into the indigenous culture and lifestyle of the Bidayuh people.

More than just a logistical display of team spirit, the convoy transformed into a moving celebration of Sarawak’s unique culture, which has been passed down for generations. As the convoy rolled through the scenic route, locals and tourists were seen waving at those team members, taking photos and rejoicing in the festive atmosphere.

The Malaysia Book Of Record regconition and certification

Upon arrival at Kampung Annah Rais, Grab Malaysia and Coca-Cola Gawai convoy was warmly welcomed by YB Datuk Willie Mongin, Member of Parliament (MP) for Puncak Borneo. Joining him were Grab Malaysia and Coca-Cola management teams, village elders and locals.

Earlier, a team of appointed MBR officers rode alongside the fleet to witness the record-setting attempt, ensuring all criteria were met. Overall, the entire journey was carefully planned and managed, covering iconic landmarks and designated stopovers such as the MBKS building, Waterfront bridge, Siburan Road, and the Annah Rais longhouse as the grand finale.

The MBOR Official Siti Hajar Binti Johor formally presented the record certificate to Grab Malaysia and Coca-Cola representatives, marking the accomplishment of such a meaningful corporate-public engagement.

Moving forward together

Through this wonderful partnership, Grab Malaysia and Coca-Cola reinforced their commitment to celebrating local festivals alongside the people they serve, bringing communities together while honouring local traditions and heritage[1] .

To further celebrate the season, Grab Malaysia is rolling out a range of festive deals and rewards across its services, helping Malaysians enjoy meaningful moments with family and friends throughout Gawai.
