SJKC Kiang Hin advances to state STEM competition

SIBU: SJKC Kiang Hin not only celebrated the achievements of its students at its prize-giving ceremony held in conjunction with the school’s 100th anniversary but also highlighted its growing excellence in STEM education after emerging champion in the Sibu Division Primary School STEM Carnival Water Rocket Competition.

The school, represented by students, Jeremy Sanyut Wong Wen Lok and Jarvis Kho Zi Jie, is set to represent the division at the forthcoming Sarawak-level competition.

Speaking at the ceremony held at SJKC Kiang Hin’s multipurpose hall on Thursday (June 18), Board of Directors’ Chairman, Kapitan So Teck Kee, congratulated all award recipients.

So said that every recognition received was the result of perseverance, commitment and continuous effort, as well as the dedicated guidance of teachers and unwavering support of parents.

He said the ceremony was not only aimed at recognising outstanding students but also at inspiring all students to pursue their dreams with determination and maintain a positive attitude towards learning.

“Diligence, perseverance and hard work are important values that should be nurtured among students as these qualities would eventually lead to success,” he added.

So also stressed that while academic achievement is important, character, responsibility, diligence and the ability to work with others are equally essential in shaping a successful future.

He said the various awards presented were intended to encourage students to develop holistically in academics, moral values, discipline, service and co-curricular activities so that they could become well-rounded individuals.

On the competition, So said the accomplishment reflected the students’ spirit of exploration and innovation while demonstrating the school’s commitment to nurturing future talents in science and technology.

In view of the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, So said society needs students who are capable of critical thinking, creativity and effective problem-solving in addition to performing well in examinations.

He encouraged students to remain curious, embrace challenges, learn from failures and view every obstacle as an opportunity for growth.

Emphasising the importance of education, he described it as the most worthwhile investment and the most powerful force for transforming lives.

“The Board of Directors would continue supporting the school’s development by improving teaching facilities and providing quality learning resources to help the school achieve greater success,” So said.

“I would also like to express my utmost appreciation to the headmaster, teachers, parents and members of the community for their contributions towards the growth and progress of the school.”

Addressing students who did not receive awards, he reminded them that success should not be measured by comparison with others but by continuous self-improvement, adding that diligence and perseverance would eventually bring success.

Also present at the event were SJKC Kiang Hin’s Headmaster, Ling Ing Kiong, and other school board members.
