KUCHING: Political stability, visionary leadership and strong public-private collaboration are crucial to ensuring Sarawak’s continued economic success, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said Sarawakians should continue to support efforts aimed at improving the people’s wellbeing and economic development, while ensuring that issues are addressed constructively rather than becoming sources of division.

He said Sarawak has remained focused on improving the welfare of its people through sound economic management despite facing external challenges and global uncertainties.

“We in Sarawak are very fortunate to have leaders who put the people first such as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Unlike elsewhere where every issue can become politicised and lead to conflict, here we focus on how to improve the wellbeing and prosperity of the people through our economy,” he said.

He said this in his address at the ‘Majlis Ngiling Bidai PEKEMA Sarawak 2026’ here last night (June 20).

Addressing business leaders present at the event, Nanta stressed that a stable political environment was essential for businesses to prosper and for the state to successfully implement its long-term development plans.

“We may have vision and plans, but we will not be able to achieve much if we cannot execute them. To do that, we need a conducive and stable political situation, environment or climate,” he said.

He also urged businesses to play their part in supporting Sarawak’s development agenda, noting that industry players contribute significantly through job creation, economic activity and community assistance.

“Even if you think you are only selling used cars, the amount of revenue you generate, the employment you provide and the assistance you extend to the community are very much part of Sarawak’s progress and success story,” he said.

Nanta also commended the Association of Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders of Malaysia (PEKEMA) Sarawak and Yayasan PEKEMA for their consistent corporate social responsibility initiatives, particularly their efforts in supporting communities in rural and interior areas.

He said such initiatives, including food basket distributions and financial assistance to selected churches, reflected Sarawak’s spirit of inclusivity, mutual respect and shared prosperity.

Among those present at the event were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Katibas state assemblyman, Lidam Assan, PEKEMA Sarawak president Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi and PEKEMA Sarawak deputy president Datuk Tapah Ata.
