KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has contributed RM12,086 to support the university’s MADANI Student Kitchen (Dapur Siswa MADANI) initiative, reinforcing efforts to provide free nutritious meals to students in need.

The contribution was presented during the Program Kasih Insani 8 @ Dapur Siswa MADANI held at Allamanda College on Tuesday (Jun 30) as part of UNIMAS’ continued commitment to student welfare.

The programme builds on the implementation of the Dapur Siswa MADANI initiative, which was launched at UNIMAS on Jun 9, and supports the Ministry of Higher Education’s (MOHE) efforts to ensure students, particularly those from the B40 income group, have access to nutritious meals while easing their cost of living and strengthening food security at higher education institutions.

According to UNIMAS, the RM12,086 contribution through its Endowment and Waqf Division will be used to purchase raw food ingredients for the Dapur Siswa MADANI programme through funds raised under the university’s endowment and waqf initiatives.

The university said the contribution reflects its commitment to promoting a culture of philanthropy while enhancing student welfare through sustainable endowment and waqf funding.

The programme also featured a community cooking activity involving university staff and volunteers, as well as a symbolic handover of food supplies to the management of Dapur Siswa MADANI UNIMAS.

The donated ingredients were used to prepare lunch and ‘bubur lambuk’ for distribution to students.

UNIMAS said it hopes the implementation of Program Kasih Insani 8 @ Dapur Siswa MADANI will pave the way for more welfare initiatives supported by endowment and waqf funds to create a more inclusive, caring and sustainable campus ecosystem in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI.
