KUCHING: The Sarawak Malay National Association (PKMS) has extended an invitation to Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, to attend the closing ceremony of Festival Jabat Sejagat 2026, during a courtesy call held at Astana Negeri Sarawak today.

The delegation was led by PKMS President, Datuk Dr Wan Ali Tuanku Madhi, who conveyed the invitation for the Governor to officiate the closing ceremony of the festival, scheduled to take place on October 25, 2026, at the CIDB Convention Centre.

The festival, which will run from October 22 to 25, 2026, aims to promote traditional martial arts and preserve local cultural heritage through a series of activities involving community participation and cultural exchange.

Among the highlights are silat competitions and performances, traditional archery, slingshot contests, the Heritage Race, colouring competitions, cultural demonstrations, heritage workshops, and various interactive programmes designed to introduce and promote local arts and traditions to the public.

In addition, the festival will feature cultural exhibitions showcasing traditional attire, songket textiles, heritage weapons, and handicrafts, reflecting the rich cultural identity of Sarawak.

Local food vendors will also take part, providing opportunities for entrepreneurs to promote their products while contributing to the growth of tourism and the community-based economy.

The event is jointly organised with the involvement of various archery, slingshot and silat associations from across Sarawak, alongside relevant agencies and organisations.

To further strengthen regional cooperation, the organisers have also extended invitations to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and associations from Kalimantan, Brunei Darussalam, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia to participate in the festival.
