SONG: A 56-year-old man is feared to have drowned after reportedly falling from a boat in Sungai Bangkit near Rumah Lasin Katibas yesterday evening (July 3).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Sumok Jugah, had earlier gone to buy cooking gas at a shop in Nanga Bangkit.

The incident was believed to have occurred at about 6 pm.

“The incident came to light after residents of the longhouse discovered the victim’s boat drifting upstream in Sungai Bangkit without anyone on board,” Bomba spokesperson said.

Bomba said it received a call from the Song police station at 9.40am today (July 4) informing them of the incident.

Firefighters later proceeded to the police station for further information before attending a briefing with police on the search and rescue operation.

The search operation is ongoing with the assistance of the police and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
