KUCHING: The Persatuan Pengusaha Kek Lapis Sarawak (PPKLS) distributed free Sarawak layer cakes or kek lapis to visitors at Batang Lupar Bridge 1 on Sarawak Day, using the state celebration to promote the iconic delicacy and strengthen community engagement.
PPKLS chairperson Rabiah Amit said the initiative was part of the association’s efforts to bring the heritage product closer to communities across Sarawak while celebrating the occasion with the public.
She also said that the association’s goodwill outreach programme would become an annual event beginning this year.
“This initiative is part of PPKLS’ efforts to engage more closely with communities throughout the state while promoting Sarawak layer cake as a heritage product that brings people together.
“We hope PPKLS will continue to grow in line with the vision of a Prosperous and Progressive Sarawak.”
The distribution followed a goodwill visit by the association to the Women’s Bureau of the Sarawak Women’s Development Organisation (PPWS) Kabong Zone on July 21.
Rabiah, who led the PPKLS delegation, thanked PPWS Kabong Zone for its warm hospitality and expressed hope that both organisations would collaborate on future programmes, including workshops on Sarawak layer cake making and other traditional food products.
“The openness and spirit of camaraderie shown by our friends in Kabong have inspired us to continue moving forward together. We hope to share our skills and experience in the layer cake industry for our mutual benefit.”
