SIBU: The Nibong Tada Water Treatment Plant, with a production capacity of five million litres per day (5 MLD), is now operating efficiently and supplying clean water to 847 households in the surrounding area.
Utilities and Telecommunications Minister, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said his follow-up visit to the plant confirmed that the water treatment system, which uses Acute System Technology, is functioning effectively to ensure a safe and reliable supply of clean water for residents.
He said the plant draws its raw water from Batang Rajang through an intake located about 200 metres from the treatment facility.
“The raw water supply was found to be sufficient, stable and reliable, as witnessed during the visit to the intake site.
“My delegation and I also inspected the water treatment process at the plant, from the point where the raw water is channelled into the facility until it is processed into clean treated water,” he said in a statement after visiting the plant today.
Julaihi said the delegation was also given the opportunity to observe the difference between raw and treated water by examining water samples collected in containers provided at the plant.
“The water produced is clean and meets the prescribed drinking water standards,” he said.
Also present were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications, Datuk Jafri Lias, and the Acting Director of the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), Tamida Daadi.
