KUCHING: A biography documenting the life and leadership of former Padungan assemblywoman Datuk Lily Yong Lee Lee will be launched this Thursday at Theatre Hotel Kuching.
The book, titled “Datuk Lily Yong Lee Lee: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges”, is authored by veteran writer Leonard Sabu and traces Yong’s journey from her early years into public life, including her time as Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women’s Wing chairperson and SUPP Kuching Branch chairperson, according to a statement released on Saturday.
A companion publication, “Captain of Her Own Journey”, will also be launched at the same event.
The launch is scheduled for 4 pm on Thursday, July 30.
The statement said the biography goes beyond a conventional life story, offering an account of Yong’s leadership shaped by resilience, conviction and commitment to public service, while also reflecting on moments of adversity that tested her character without dwelling on controversy.
The book’s concluding chapters distil her experiences into lessons for younger leaders, centred on integrity, empathy, perseverance and community engagement.
According to Sabu, he said Yong’s story reflects a broader understanding of leadership.
“Datuk Lily Yong’s journey reminds us that meaningful leadership is measured not by titles or recognition, but by integrity, courage and the positive difference we make in the lives of others,” he said in the statement.
