KUCHING: Sarawak’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network has expanded with the installation of four new 22kW AC charging points at Sarawak Plaza and Riverside Majestic Hotel, further supporting the state’s transition towards sustainable transportation.
The expansion, led by SDEC Karuna JV Sdn Bhd (SKJV), includes two charging units on the third floor of the Sarawak Plaza multi-storey car park and another two units on the fourth floor of the Riverside Majestic Hotel multi-storey car park near the main entrance.
The new charging stations are fully integrated into the Fast EV mobile application, allowing users to locate, activate and pay for charging sessions through the app.
Charging is priced at RM0.22 per minute, offering EV owners an affordable charging option in the city centre.
According to SKJV, the expansion forms part of its ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive EV charging network across Sarawak in support of the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy (SET-P).
The company said expanding charging infrastructure at strategic commercial and hospitality locations would improve convenience for residents and visitors while encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles.
SKJV also announced plans to further expand the Fast EV network with two new DC fast-charging stations in Kuching, which are expected to significantly reduce EV users’ charging times. The locations will be announced at a later date.
The Fast EV initiative is part of Sarawak’s efforts to promote innovation, digital transformation and sustainable development through locally driven technology solutions while supporting the state’s growing EV community.
