MIRI: A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined RM1,500 after pleading guilty to concealing and attempting to dispose of a stolen motorcycle.
The sentence was handed down by the Magistrates’ Court here after the accused admitted to an offence under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which relates to dishonestly concealing stolen property.
The case stemmed from the theft of a blue Honda Dash motorcycle reported missing on July 22.
The complainant discovered that the motorcycle, which belonged to her husband, had disappeared from the parking area outside their home in Jalan Mulia 8, Tudan Lot, before lodging a police report.
Following investigations under ‘Ops Lejang’, police intelligence led officers to an abandoned house in Jalan Harmoni, Tudan Phase 6, on July 24 at about 8:00 pm, where the suspect was arrested.
Police said the man was allegedly dismantling the stolen motorcycle into separate components in an attempt to dispose of the stolen property.
Miri Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, urged members of the public to take additional precautions to safeguard their motorcycles, including installing extra security locks, disc locks, alarm systems, and GPS tracking devices.
He said such measures could help reduce the risk of theft while enabling police to recover stolen vehicles more quickly.
Police also appealed to the public to report any information relating to criminal activities to the Miri District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and maintaining public safety.
