KUCHING: Sarawak will bring together about 11,000 participants next month for its biggest annual integrity programme as the state intensifies efforts to strengthen governance, accountability and corruption prevention.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, said the Sarawak Integrity Day (HIS) 2026 celebration on August 12, and the Sarawak Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption Empowerment (PINTAR) 2026 Conference on August 11, both to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), will bring together civil servants, policymakers and integrity experts from Malaysia and abroad.
He said HIS was not merely an annual celebration but a platform to instil integrity as part of the work culture and daily lives of public servants and the community.
“Integrity is an important foundation in building public confidence in the government and ensuring public services are delivered transparently, efficiently and responsibly.
“Every action and decision should be guided by trust, transparency and responsibility. With the support and cooperation of all parties, we are confident Sarawak will continue to progress as a region that is not only economically developed but also strong in integrity and governance,” he said in a press conference today at the Baitulmakmur Building II.
Organised by the Sarawak Government through the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS) in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Integrity (IIM), HIS 2026 will be held under the theme ‘Integrity: The Foundation of Sarawak’s Prosperity’.
The hybrid event is expected to attract about 11,000 participants, with 3,000 attending in person and another 8,000 joining virtually.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate at the celebration, deliver the Premier’s Integrity Address, and launch the Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption Empowerment (PINTAR) Module, a training module for Sarawak civil servants aimed at strengthening integrity, governance and anti-corruption practices.
He will also launch the School Integrity Friends Club (KRIS) to promote integrity among students.
The PINTAR 2026 Conference is expected to attract about 500 state and federal civil servants, particularly those in top management and management and professional positions.
It will feature an executive talk by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific Anti-Corruption Adviser, Annika Wythes.
It will be followed by presentations by former Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay; Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman; and Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.
Juanda said the programmes support Sarawak’s aspiration of becoming an advanced, competitive and high integrity region by 2030, in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
