KUCHING: Tyng Dance Academy (TDA) completed an outstanding three-city Asian campaign by securing 13 awards and finalist placings at the Taipei Open Championship 2026.
Competing at Taipei Gymnasium from Aug 1 to 2, the eight-member Kuching delegation captured four gold, one silver and one bronze medal alongside several finalist finishes.
“Our Taipei campaign was especially meaningful because our dancers proudly represented Sarawak while competing against strong international opponents,” TDA founder and principal Chan Tyng Tyng said in a press statement on Wednesday (Aug 5).
She said the dancers displayed determination, discipline and resilience throughout the championship despite entering competitions across different age groups, categories and highly competitive international divisions.
Chan said the academy was delighted to return home with four gold medals, an Asian Solo Team Match silver medal and multiple World DanceSport Federation finalist performances.
She said the achievements reflected not only individual talent but also consistent training, teamwork and the academy’s long-term commitment to developing competitive Sarawak dancers for international platforms.
Leading the medal haul was Trisha Yap Tai Qii, who claimed two gold medals before reaching two WDSF finals, finishing fourth in Youth and sixth in Adult.
Jayda Chang Xu Ern added another gold medal in the Junior II Grade C event while finishing fourth in the Youth Grade C competition against strong rivals.
Nine-year-old Jovanna Goh Yi Xian impressed by winning Juvenile I Grade C gold, Juvenile II Grade C bronze and reaching the WDSF Juvenile II final.
Fellow nine-year-old Ariella Tang Chen Xin also reached an international final with sixth place, while Claudin Tay Jiayen and Amanda Goh Suk Min secured fourth and fifth respectively.
Another highlight came through the Asian Solo Team Match, where the Malaysian contingent earned the silver medal, with TDA dancers contributing proudly as Sarawak representatives.
The Taipei competition concluded TDA’s successful two-week campaign spanning Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Taipei, showcasing Sarawak dancers across multiple international DanceSport championships and categories.
Earlier, the academy collected 51 medals, including 22 gold, at the WDSF Malaysia Open DanceSport Championship, while another delegation earned three Merit Awards in Shanghai.
Chan also served as an international adjudicator in Taipei upon invitation from the local DanceSport governing body.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, TDA will next host the 4th Borneo Open International DanceSport Championship and Convention in Kuching from Dec 2 to 8.
