KUCHING: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has contributed RM1 million to the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR) Charitable Trust (SUCT), reinforcing its commitment to fostering inclusivity and social cohesion across the state.
PETROS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo said in a statement yesterday (Aug 10) that the contribution reflected the company’s belief that sustainable development must be inclusive and community-driven.
“Through this collaboration with UNIFOR, we aim to support platforms that strengthen harmony, promote mutual respect and contribute to the wellbeing of all Sarawakians,” he said.
The contribution supports UNIFOR’s ongoing role in coordinating assistance for non-Muslim houses of worship and related community initiatives, complementing broader efforts to ensure development reaches all segments of Sarawak’s diverse society.
The initiative builds on PETROS’ recently fulfilled corporate zakat responsibility, reflecting a holistic approach to community upliftment that embraces compassion, unity and shared progress across all faiths and backgrounds.
UNIFOR plays a key role in facilitating structured and equitable support for non-Muslim religious institutions, serving as a cornerstone of Sarawak’s model of interfaith cooperation and unity, said the release.
The initiative is aligned with Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), reflecting a shared vision of balanced progress that drives economic growth while nurturing social cohesion and inclusivity.
Also present at the handover were PETROS senior vice president for Human Capital, Corporate Relations and Services Ismail Said; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn; Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil; UNIFOR director Datuk Georgina Apphia Ngau; and UNIFOR Charitable Trust chief executive officer John Kennedy Janang.
