SIBU: A three-foot-long crocodile spotted in a ditch near the Mile 10 Rascom Camp area here today sparked concern among residents before it was successfully captured by the Sibu District Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
Sibu APM acted swiftly after receiving a report from the public at 7.20 am, helping to prevent the reptile from posing a further risk to residents in the area.
In a statement, Sibu APM said four of its members were deployed to the location after receiving the emergency call and carried out an operation to capture the crocodile, which had been spotted in the ditch.
The operation was completed without incident, ensuring the safety of members of the public in the surrounding area.
“The presence of crocodiles in areas near settlements and public facilities cannot be taken lightly, especially when the animal is in a location that could attract public attention,” Sibu APM said.
It also reminded the public not to approach or attempt to capture any wild animal spotted near residential areas.
Members of the public are advised to immediately report any sightings of wild animals to the relevant authorities so that appropriate action can be taken to ensure residents’ safety.
The incident also highlights the importance of members of the public promptly informing the authorities when wildlife is spotted, particularly in areas close to human settlements.
