TELUK MELANO: Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, is keen to revive the former Feri Malaysia service as a means of reconnecting Pahang and Sarawak.
Recalling the former sea connection, Al-Sultan Abdullah said he had personally travelled on the ferry with his late father around 1986.
“There was once Feri Malaysia. I remember that I travelled on it with my late father,” he said.
He said this when officiating at Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah here today.
Al-Sultan Abdullah recalled that the vessel used for the service was already old at the time and the service eventually could not be sustained.
“So we have to find other ways that can reconnect us,” he said.
His remarks reflected his desire to re-establish a maritime connection between the two regions, although no specific proposal, route, vessel or timeline was announced.
The Sultan had earlier spoken about strengthening ties between Pahang and Sarawak, including through better connectivity between the two regions.
The idea of restoring a sea connection also carries a personal significance for Al-Sultan Abdullah, having experienced the former ferry service himself with his late father four decades ago.
