SERIAN: A man was killed in an accident on the Pan Borneo Highway, while three others survived with minor injuries.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call at 2:50 pm regarding an accident involving two lorries on the highway near Sungai Menyan.
Firefighters from the Serian fire station were dispatched to the scene, located 25 kilometres away, arriving at 3:05 pm.
“Reports from the ground stated that a cargo lorry and a five-tonne lorry were involved in the crash.
“A total of four male victims were involved. However, one victim was trapped under the overturned five-tonne lorry.
“The trapped victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel,” it said in a statement.
The other three victims sustained minor injuries. One victim was sent to Serian Hospital by members of the public, while the remaining two were transported using the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
Firefighters worked to extricate the victim’s body from beneath the overturned lorry before handing the remains over to the police for further action.
The team cleared the crash site before departing, with the entire operation concluding at 4:45 pm.
