BAU: The proposed development of tourism facilities at Gunung Bronang Singai will take into account the views and agreement of the local community.
Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the project, supported through an allocation from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), could enhance Gunung Bronang’s appeal as a tourism destination while creating new socio-economic opportunities for nearby residents.
Harry, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, said one of the key components proposed is the construction of an eight-kilometre road to improve access to the area.
“This project will attract tourists to Gunung Bronang, while bringing socioeconomic value to the local community.
“The construction of the eight-kilometre access road will also improve connectivity to the tourism area, while opening up opportunities for agricultural activities and the construction of new homes for residents,” he said this when attending a dialogue session with residents at Kampung Daun Singai Multipurpose Hall here today (Sept 1).
The session was held to gather residents’ feedback and views on the proposed development, as well as to provide clarification on several issues raised by the community.
During the session, the project consultant explained that its implementation would not involve tree felling or forest clearing that could affect the existing ecosystem of the water catchment area, which serves as a water source for local residents.
Meanwhile, Gunung Bronang, which holds natural heritage value and tourism potential, has also been proposed for recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The proposal is seen as an effort to preserve the area’s natural forest resources without affecting the land ownership rights of the local community.
Among the proposed development components are hiking trails, a vehicle route to the summit, a viewing deck, landscaping upgrades at the waterfall area, toilets and changing rooms, an information centre and parking facilities.
