MIRI: Kenyah music, dance and cultural expression will take centre stage at Concert Cultural Evolution SKCF 2026.
The concert, organised by the Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak (PKKS) in conjunction with the Sarawak Kenyah Cultural Festival (SKCF) 2026, will be held on Sept 3 at the Grand Ballroom, Forum Cultural Centre here.
Carrying the theme “Celebrate the Rhythm. Experience the Culture,” the event will feature a line-up of performers showcasing traditional and contemporary music, Sape’ performances, cultural and creative dances, solo acts, ensemble presentations and modern interpretations of Kenyah performing arts.
Organising chairperson Aaron Alan said the concert was designed not only as entertainment but also as a platform for performers to share Kenyah cultural identity with the wider community.
“Concert Cultural Evolution is about celebrating where our culture comes from while recognising how it continues to grow,” he said in the statement.
He added that cultural evolution did not mean abandoning tradition, but understanding one’s roots while allowing culture to continue living through each generation’s creativity.
The Sape’, an instrument closely associated with the musical heritage of Sarawak’s Orang Ulu communities, will feature prominently throughout the programme.
Aaron said the concert also aimed to give greater visibility to local artists, musicians, dancers and emerging performers, while encouraging young people to take greater interest in their cultural heritage.
Concert Cultural Evolution is one of the highlights of SKCF 2026, which runs from Sept 1 to 4 at the Forum Cultural Centre.
Tickets are priced at RM50 (Category A), RM30 (Category B) and RM20 (Category C), with free entry for children aged 12 and below. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the venue’s ticketing counter, subject to availability.
