SIBU: The Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2026 has been rescheduled by two days, with the 10-day event now set to run from Sept 5 to 14 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phases 1 and 2.
The festival, themed “Echoes of Borneo”, was originally scheduled for Sept 3 to 12.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting chaired by Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting this afternoon (Sept 1).
In a WhatsApp message to Sarawak Tribune, Ting said the fireworks display planned for the festival’s final night would instead be held during the year-end countdown celebration.
BCF 2026 will feature a vibrant line-up of cultural performances, entertainment, community activities, food experiences and interactive programmes throughout the festival.
The event will bring together local, national and international performers to celebrate Borneo’s cultural diversity while promoting friendship and cultural exchange among communities in the region and beyond.
This year’s international cultural programme will feature troupes from China, including Ningde City, Gutian County, Fuding City and Putian City, as well as performers from Jakarta, Indonesia and Kuala Belait, Brunei.
The festival will also showcase cultural groups from Sabah, including Tompuvan and Kumpulan Budayawan, alongside the Budakapi Movement fire show team from Peninsular Malaysia.
Together, the participating groups will showcase traditions, music, dance and cultural heritage, highlighting the shared cultural ties that connect communities across Borneo and beyond.
The official mascot of BCF 2026 remains the clouded leopard, locally known as Engkuli among the Dayak community.
