KUCHING: Construction of a new multipurpose hall at SMK Kapit is progressing well, strengthening efforts to provide students with a more conducive learning environment.
Principal Jeffry Lias said the project was funded through an allocation from Bukit Goram assemblyman Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
He disclosed this during a study visit to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here on Tuesday.
Jeffry led a delegation comprising 80 Form Three, Four and Five students and 12 teachers during the visit, which coincided with the school holidays.
Jamit, who is the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs), urged the students to prioritise their studies and strive for the best possible academic results.
“Education is the foundation of a bright and successful future.
“Whether in politics, business, entrepreneurship, the public service or the corporate sector, successful individuals have built their careers on academic achievement,” he said during the visit.
He added that higher education would broaden the students’ career prospects and equip them with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to society.
The study tour was organised to provide students with learning experiences outside the classroom, help them consider their options after completing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and expose them to developments beyond Kapit.
The delegation also visited Sarawak Skills, Sarawak Cultural Village, Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak, the Sarawak National Youth Skills Institute, Borneo Empurau Farm and Borneo Cultures Museum.
