SIBU: A woman was among two persons arrested after police seized suspected ketamine weighing about 2.89 kilogrammes and 8,400 suspected Erimin 5 pills with a total estimated value of RM412,351 during a raid on a house in Jalan Gambir here on Tuesday (Sept 1).
The local woman and man, both aged 21, were arrested during the operation carried out by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at about 5pm.
Sibu district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said an inspection of the premises led to the discovery of 840 red and silver tin containers, each containing 10 pills suspected to be Erimin 5.
“The total number of pills seized was 8,400, with an estimated gross weight of 2,677.46 grammes.
“Also seized were six black paper packages containing blue paper packages, each containing crystal chunks suspected to be ketamine, with an estimated gross weight of 2,891.81 grammes,” he said.
Abang Zainal said the total value of the drugs seized was estimated at RM412,351.
He said both suspects, who have no previous criminal records, had been remanded for five days to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Meanwhile, offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carry a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, while offenders may also be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the same Act.
Abang Zainal said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), particularly the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN), would continue to intensify efforts to combat drug trafficking and drug abuse.
