KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has sent a request to declare an emergency for Serian amid the worsening haze condition.
SDMC’s Chairman, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, said that the Sarawak Government is requesting the Federal Government to consider declaring an emergency for Serian.
“The state government has conveyed a request to the federal government and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to consider declaring an emergency for Serian
“As of 8:00 am, the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Serian recorded 512. As of 2:00 pm today, the reading increased to 521,” he said
He also said that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has brought up this situation with Prime Minister Datuk Seti Anwar Ibrahim.
“We will wait for the declaration from Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
