KUCHING: His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, has granted consent to declare a local haze emergency across the entire Serian Division after air pollution reached levels dangerous to public health and safety.
The royal decree was made following joint advice and recommendations submitted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, alongside technical assessments from relevant disaster management and environmental agencies.
The proclamation allows relevant authorities to mobilise immediate, heightened measures to safeguard the health, safety, and general welfare of affected communities in the district.
The government assured that it will continuously monitor air quality developments closely and ensure all necessary interventions are executed without delay.
These include active mitigation operations, public health advisories, and the timely dissemination of safety guidelines to local residents.
