SARIKEI: A total of 1,014 participants has obtained their Class B2 motorcycle licences through the 2026 Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme organised by the Tanjong Manis parliamentary constituency.
Tanjong Manis MP Datuk Yusuf Abduk Wahab said the initiative was aimed particularly at the B40 and low-income groups, enabling them to obtain motorcycle licences at minimal cost.
He said having a valid licence could improve their mobility and open up employment and income opportunities, particularly in the logistics and transportation sectors.
“This programme is one of the government’s initiatives that reflects its concern for the challenges faced by people at the grassroots level.
“It aims to help target groups, particularly the B40 and low-income earners, obtain motorcycle licences and create opportunities to improve their socioeconomic status and household income through employment opportunities in the logistics and transportation sectors,” he said during the programme’s licence presentation ceremony at Kampung Baru Seberang Sarikei Multipurpose Hall on Saturday (Sept 5).
Yusuf said the initiative also contributed to road safety by ensuring participants underwent systematic driving training and testing before obtaining their licences.
He added that the programme reflected the government’s commitment to improving mobility among lower-income communities while enhancing their access to employment and economic opportunities.
The programme was jointly implemented by the Sarikei branch of the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Tanjong Manis Parliamentary Service Centre and Institut Memandu Sarikei Sdn Bhd.
All 1,014 successful participants underwent screening, training and driving tests in accordance with the procedures and standards set by JPJ Sarawak.
JPJ Sarawak also expressed its appreciation to federal and Sarawak government agencies as well as strategic partners involved in implementing the programme.
Also present were JPJ Sarawak deputy director Mohamad Faizal David Jemat, Sarikei Resident’s Office representative Azryn Naim Zolkefli and Sarikei district police chief’s representative Assistant Superintendent of Police Douglas Nyatop.
