KUCHING: The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak has reminded the public that open burning is prohibited, warning offenders of fines of up to RM100,000.
The board said open burning poses risks to public health and the environment and is subject to legal action.
In a notice posted on its official Facebook page, NREB reminded the public that those convicted could be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed for up to five years, or both.
For continuing offences, an additional fine of up to RM1,000 may be imposed for each day the offence continues.
NREB also urged members of the public to immediately report any open burning activities through the contact numbers provided by the board.
It called for collective responsibility in protecting the environment and keeping Sarawak green, clean and healthy.
