KUCHING: A total of 269 police officers attended the Sarawak Police Officers Assembly with State Police Commissioner Datuk Azman Yusof at the Sarawak State Library here yesterday.

They consisted of police personnel from 28 IPD districts throughout Sarawak.

In attendance also were Sarawak Police Civilian Staff Union (Spocsu) president Sapawi Hamdan, Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) deputy president II Zainal Ismail and others.

In his welcoming speech, Sapawi announced that the next Spocsu
general election would be held today.

Also during the assembly, Zainal mentioned that there were two things that concerned civil servants: job security and pension.

“Amidst the changes of administration in the federal government, there had been a lot of
uncertainty.

“We have done our research and development on this matter. We were able to meet with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and brought this matter up.

“Tun ensures that the size of the civil service will not be reduced and pension is secure,” he said.

He also added that Cuepacs was fighting a one percent increase in civil servant wages along with promotions before they retire.

“This we voiced out during the Cuepacs meeting on Labour Day on May 1, 2018 but the answer has yet to be known due to the change of government,” he said.

The assembly ended with a speech by Azman congratulating Cuepacs in championing the rights of civil servants, and Sapawi for his effort in increasing Spocsu membership by 60 percent this year.

Earlier, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Azman handed Certificates of Appreciations to a group of retired police officers.
