NGEMAH assemblyman Anyi Jana who juggles his responsibilities in public service with staying closely connected to the community simultaneously, leads a modest lifestyle.

Away from the spotlight, he often finds comfort in simple pleasures such as local cuisine and outdoor leisure.

In a candid interview with Sarawak Tribune, he offered a glimpse into his personal side, sharing reflections on life beyond politics.

Tribune: Can you tell us what is your favourite food?
Anyi: My favourite food is traditional village dishes such as midin and paku vegetables, as well as freshwater fish like baung. I particularly enjoy simple, local meals like these, as they are fresh and reflect our local flavours.

Tribune: When you have free time, where do you usually prefer to go?
Anyi: At the moment, my schedule is quite tight, and weekends are usually filled with community programmes and events. However, when I do have the opportunity, I prefer to spend my time at my farm.

Tribune: What are your hobbies?
Anyi: At this stage of my life, I stay active by jogging and playing badminton. I usually jog for about half an hour, three times a week, and play badminton about once a week in the evenings. I also occasionally visit fruit orchards and oil palm plantations to spend some time outdoors and keep active.

Tribune: If you weren’t in politics, what career path might you have pursued?
Anyi: Since I come from an education background, if I had not entered politics, I would likely have continued in the field even after retirement. At the same time, I have explored various business ventures over the years. The most suitable for me has been working as an insurance agent, as it is flexible and fits my schedule, although I have also been involved in other businesses.

Tribune: What do you consider most important in achieving success?
Anyi: First and foremost, good health is the most important. When we are healthy, everything we do will go smoothly. As for positions or titles, I leave that to God. If I am fortunate enough to be given such opportunities, I will accept them with gratitude.
