SRI AMAN: Travelling between Sri Aman and Betong will soon be faster with the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge expected to be opened to the public in August following the completion of its final structural connection today.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas officiated at the bridge’s Final Stitching Ceremony, which marked the completion of its main structure.
According to Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak, the bridge forms part of the Sarawak Government’s efforts to strengthen connectivity between Sri Aman and Betong via the Sarawak Second Trunk Road.
“Once opened, the bridge will shorten the travelling distance between Sri Aman and Betong from 73 kilometres (km) via the Pan Borneo Highway to just 37 km through the Sarawak Second Trunk Road.
“The shorter route is expected to improve connectivity while supporting trade, agriculture and tourism activities along the Sri Aman-Betong corridor,” the department said in a statement
The bridge spans 870 metres and features a 200-metre-wide navigation channel with a clearance height of 23 metres.
The cable-stayed bridge is supported by two towers measuring 145.5 metres in height.
The project also includes the construction of 2.08 km of access roads complete with drainage systems, road furniture, and safety features.
PWD Sarawak said the project reflects the state’s continued efforts to improve transport infrastructure and support long-term socio-economic development.
