KUCHING: The people should closely monitor weather patterns and temperatures, especially during the Southwest Monsoon which occurs between May and September.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni warned that a constant rise in temperature could lead to various health and environmental risks.
Hence, he advised the public to take precautions like drinking more water, limiting outdoor activities, and seeking medical attention if they experience symptoms of heat exhaustion or stroke.
“Furthermore, warmer weather conditions may cause mosquito vectors to mature more quickly, shortening the incubation period of the virus, and leading to the spread of diseases like dengue, cholera and malaria.
“Haze caused by air pollution can also lead to respiratory diseases like asthma, pneumonia, sore throat, eye pain and cough,” he said.
He said Sarawak was concerned with the issue of climate change adding that the state was taking strategic steps to control it by transitioning to Green Energy, commercial recycling, and forest conservation efforts.
The deputy minister emphasised the importance of taking strategic steps to control climate change and generate new resources and income for Sarawak.
