SIMANGGANG: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) has surveyed 1,238,159 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land as of May 31.

Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said this is an increase from 1,217,766 hectares recorded on September 30, 2025.

He said of the total, 966,938 hectares of NCR land have been gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code (KTN) as Bumiputera Communal Reserves.

“Before 2010, the Sarawak Government had only managed to survey 260,000 hectares of NCR land prior to the implementation of the New Initiative NCR Land Survey Programme in the same year.

“Following the implementation of this initiative, the Sarawak Government has successfully surveyed more than 1.2 million hectares of NCR land in the state within a span of 15 years,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the handover of Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazettes under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code (KTS) and Land Title Grant Letters under Section 18 for the Sri Aman Division today.

Awang Tengah advised NCR landowners in the state to apply for participation in the New Initiative NCR Land Survey Programme, if they have not done so, for the benefit of future generations.

He added that many young Sarawakians are now living in urban areas, outside the state, or overseas, and only return to their hometowns during festive seasons.

“Many among the younger generation may not be fully aware of their family’s NCR land boundaries compared to the older generation, and if this is not addressed promptly, it could lead to problems in the future.

“Hence, I advise NCR landowners in the state to take immediate action and apply for the programme so that their descendants will be aware of their land boundaries and avoid any misunderstandings,” he said.

Earlier, a total of 468 individuals from the Bukit Begunan, Simanggang, and Lingga state constituencies received 620 land title letters under Section 18 of the KTN during the event.

The event also saw the presentation of 72 Bumiputera Communal Reserve (Agriculture) gazettes under Section 6 to recipients from the Balai Ringin, Bukit Begunan, and Simanggang constituencies.
