MIRI: A 13-year-old boy who went missing while swimming with friends here has been found dead, after search operations were conducted earlier today (May 1).
The teenager, identified as Jackson Statham Jiling Mara, was discovered at the bottom of a man-made pond in the Senadin area at around 12:15 pm, fire officials said.
He is believed to have drowned while bathing with seven friends at a site known locally as Kuah Tiri. All seven companions managed to get out of the water safely.
Emergency services were alerted at 11:04 am, with firefighters from the Lutong station arriving at the scene just over ten minutes later.

Rescuers initially carried out a surface search, focusing on the last point where the boy had been seen. His body was later located at an estimated depth of about 10 feet.
Firefighters brought him to the surface and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Ministry of Health.
The body has since been handed over to police for further action.
A total of eight firefighters and one fire engine were deployed to the operations. Police and health officials were also present at the scene.
