Car plunges into ravine in Bekenu, driver sustains minor injuries

MIRI: A driver escaped with minor injuries after a car plunged into a ravine in northern Sarawak this morning (Apr 23).

Emergency crews were called at 7:40 am to Kampung Pelabi Bekenu, near Batu Niah, where a Perodua Axia had veered off the road and fallen into a slope about 27 kilometres from the fire station.

Firefighters arrived at 8:08 am to find the sole occupant still inside the vehicle but not trapped. The victim was conscious and in a stable condition.

No rescue operations were required. Crews secured the scene and monitored the driver until paramedics arrived.

The victim was later handed over to a Ministry of Health ambulance team for further assessment.

The situation was brought under control within minutes, and operations concluded by 8:20 am.

Five firefighters and one engine were deployed, alongside police and medical personnel.
