BUKIT MERTAJAM, Penang: The Communications Ministry, through the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), organised an open-air screening of ’Babah’ in Permatang Pasir on Friday night (Apr 24) to make local films more accessible to the public.

The programme’s casual, open-air concept received an encouraging response, with about 230 residents and their families attending to enjoy a movie under the stars.

The programme was organised with FINAS, Community Communications Department (JKOM), and the Information Department to bring quality entertainment closer to the people, said Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

“‘Babah’ is among the films that have won various awards. I am proud to be here tonight with the cast and the local community.

“I hope programmes like this will not only give the residents of Kampung Pematang Pasir an opportunity, but also young people and especially children, to enjoy a movie-watching experience in a relaxed and comfortable setting,” he told reporters at the event on Friday night.

Also present was Ministry of Communications’ Secretary-General, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah.

Fahmi added that the open-air movie format is also suitable for expansion to more locations nationwide.

Friday night’s programme was livened up by the presence of lead actors, Qi Razali and Cristina Suzanne Stockstill, along with a brief ‘Safe Internet Campaign’ session and a lucky draw. – BERNAMA
