PAKAN: A married couple was made homeless after their two-storey house in Rh Jubang, Sungai Pinang, Ulu Pakan, was destroyed by fire in the wee hours today.

Thankfully, the victims aged 61 and 55, were at their relative’s home when the fire broke out.

Bintangor fire station chief Nicholas Belulin said they received an emergency call around 2.35 am and immediately deployed his men to the scene.

Firemen from Sarikei station were also despatched to assist in putting out the flames.

It was reported that the firefighters experienced difficulties reaching the scene due to the road condition and they had to use vehicles provided by the villagers.

By the time they arrived, the house was beyond saving and the firemen had to source water from a river nearby to fight the flames which were doused around 5.20 am.
