MIRI: It is crucial for village heads in their respective areas to be very aware of their responsibility in modelling leadership and accountable to everyone, says Bekenu assemblywoman RoseyYunus.
Speaking at the familiarisation event with village heads held yesterday at the Bekenu community hall, Rosey added their roles as leaders within their respective areas were crucial as they were the ones bridging those in the grassroots level to the government.
“Village heads are appointed to serve the people, so they must take care of those under their responsibility,” she said, adding that the voices of villagers must be heard.
She said village heads must practise integrity and get engaged with their community to ensure the government policies are delivered smoothly.
“They (the village heads) are our ears and eyes to ensure that government’s policies and agenda reach those in the rural areas,” she said.
Also present at the event were Sibuti Member of Parliament Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat and some 180 village heads in Subis area.
During the event, Rosey also presented posters on combating drugs to the 180 village heads.
