BAU: Eight local men were rounded up in a special anti-drug operation yesterday (Jun 29), with two found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

All tested positive for drug use.

The arrests were made during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’, conducted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), in Kampung Sibuluh, Kampung Daun Singai, Kampung Bobak Singai and Kampung Barieng Singai.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said officers inspected eight local men, aged between 20 and 43, during the operation.

“Two of the suspects were found with separate transparent plastic packets containing a total of 0.39g of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM40.

“They were arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs.

“Although no drugs were found on the remaining six suspects, initial urine screening tests showed that all eight men tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

Background checks found that five of the suspects had prior records for drug-related offences, while the remaining three had no prior record.

“During initial questioning, two suspects admitted to consuming methamphetamine a day before their arrest.

“Four confessed to taking the drug on the day they were detained, while the remaining two said they had last abused it three days earlier,” he said.
