SARATOK: An elderly driver died on the spot following a fatal two-vehicle collision along Jalan Saratok-Roban this morning.

The accident, involving a Perodua Kancil and a Toyota Hilux, happened around 7.20 am when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Saratok station were dispatched to the scene, about 10km away, after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed the crash and attended to the Kancil driver, who was lying on the road outside his vehicle.

Mathew Solis George Tangkun, 72, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Meanwhile, the Hilux driver and passenger aged 38 and 22 respectively, managed to escape unscathed in the collision.

A clean-up operation was performed to clear the accident debris before the operation ended at 8.21 am.
