BAU: A nurse’s attempt to save money by buying discounted chicken online ended with a RM6,770 loss after she fell victim to a scam advertised on Facebook.

The incident happened yesterday (Jul 1) when the 49-year-old woman came across an advertisement offering “Ayam Fresh Premium” at attractive prices.

Believing the offer to be genuine, she contacted the seller through WhatsApp to place an order.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the woman was first instructed to make a RM5 payment through a link provided by the suspect, but the transaction could not be completed.

The suspect then allegedly told her to download an app known as “delivery4u” and manually configure the payment option to cash-on-delivery.

“Shortly afterwards, the victim received a notification from her bank informing her that her account had been temporarily blocked.

“A check of her account found that RM6,770 had been transferred without her knowledge into an Affin Islamic Bank account belonging to another individual.

“Despite the payment, the victim never received the chicken she had ordered. Her repeated attempts to contact the seller were unsuccessful, leading her to realise she had been deceived,” he said.

She lodged a police report at the police station for further actions.

Checks also found no previous records linked to the bank account or the phone number used by the suspect.

Mohd Haide said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
