KUCHING: Nearly RM3-million worth of frozen meat and diesel was seized by the Sarawak Region Five Marine Police Force (PPM) in two separate raids in Bintulu and Julau on Thursday.
Commander ACP Abdul Rahman Mat Hasan said the first raid, carried out under ‘Ops Taring Gelora’ at about 12:30 pm, targeted a warehouse along Sungai Kemena in Bintulu.
He said inspections uncovered eight containers, including four containing about 43,849.60 kilogrammes of frozen meat, with seizures estimated at RM2.93 million.
“A local man found at the premises failed to produce any documents related to the imported goods and is suspected of violating the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
“A pickup truck and a forklift believed to have been used to handle the goods were also seized. The case has been handed over to the Veterinary Department in Bintulu for further action,” he said in a statement.
In separate operations about 10 minutes later, he said a team from the Sarikei tactical base under ‘Ops Taring Landai’ inspected a logging camp in Pakan, Julau.
Checks uncovered several drums holding an estimated 2,300 litres of diesel.
Abdul Rahman said a local worker failed to produce documents to possess or store the controlled goods.
The case has been referred to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Sarikei for further investigation, with seizures estimated at RM15,500.
“The total value of seizures for both cases is approximately RM2.95 million,” he added.
